If there’s one thing we all know about digital-first brands, it’s that attracting customers online is only half the game. Getting them to actually complete a purchase? That’s the real challenge.

Chilimobil the Swedish mobile operator known for fair prices, flexible plans, and a refreshingly straightforward approach wanted to convert more of its website visitors into subscribers. But there was a catch: like many subscription brands, they didn’t want to fall into the trap of blanket discounts that eat into margins and cheapen the brand.

So, they partnered with us to test something a little smarter.

Chilimobil wanted a way to encourage sign-ups online without lowering prices for everyone and without guessing which incentives would work.

They asked:

  • Can we convert more website visitors?

  • Can we encourage action without discounting our core offering?

  • And can we measure whether our incentive is truly making an impact?

(We loved these questions 😊)

The Smart Offer Approach

Instead of showing everyone the same incentive, we used Smart Offers to display a

gift-card reward only to visitors who were most likely to convert and only if they completed and were approved for their subscription.

So:

✔ No discounting subscription prices ✔ No wasted incentives ✔ No guessing who should see the offer

Just smart, data-driven targeting.

We set up a controlled A/B test to compare results "offer vs. no offer" to make sure we could clearly see the real impact.

And The Results?

Let’s just say...it worked. Really well.

  • 21.5% increase in conversions Visitors shown the offer were significantly more likely to complete their purchase.

  • 8.3% engagement rate Meaning the offer wasn’t just noticed, it was interesting and relevant.

  • 51% lower cost per approved purchase So Chilimobil didn’t just convert more customers, they also did it more efficiently.

In other words: Smarter incentives > bigger discounts.

Why This Worked So Well

This strategy didn’t just succeed, it made sense:

  • The offer felt like a bonus, not a markdown.

  • Only qualified customers received it, keeping spending efficient.

  • The brand’s value stayed intact, subscriptions remained subscriptions, not giveaways.

  • Data guided decisions instead of assumptions.

This is the beauty of targeted incentives: They nudge the right people at the right moment, without shouting at everyone.

What Other Brands Can Learn from Chilimobil

If your business lives online (and especially if you sell subscriptions), here’s the takeaway:

You don’t need to discount your way to growth. You just need to understand who needs a nudge… and when.

Smart Offers meet customers in that moment. And that’s where conversions happen.
